A Good Day

February 7th, 2008 by Scott

I think the christian life can be so hard.
I have another post coming about that but I just want to say. . .
Yesterday was a good day.

In the book of James (1:27), the author said

27 Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.

  • In the morning my son and I visited a friend who is dying from a brain tumor.
  • At lunchtime, I went to the Episcopal church and attended an Ash Wednesday service, which was something totally new for me.
  • At night, I visited a widow from church in rehab (she been there or in the hospital for months but this was my first time visiting her.)

I’m not bragging. All the rest of my day was filled with anger and selfishness and sin and laziness. You know, the same ole same ole.

But still, it was a pretty good day.

It didn’t end yesterday. Tonight you are staying with the first friend–the one with the brain tumor. You will be sleep-deprived in the morning, as you were the last time you stayed overnight with him. You will have to help him with bathroom needs and be sure he gets his medication. You will remind him that it is the middle of the night, and you will answer his confused questions and help him finish his sentences when he cannot recall the word he was trying to utter.

It will be a good night, and one you will remember for the rest of your life.

Thank you for your care for our brother, Dean. And for being there for our family who need your assistance so that we can grieve our father’s passing.

This IS what the Body of Christ is about, & we love serving Him with you.
